Dear Art Teacher:

In recognition of our 40th anniversary, the Woodstock Historical Society (WHS) is inviting art students in grades 7-12 to participate in a “40th Anniversary” art contest.  Students are asked to create a poster that relates our 40th anniversary and the history of Woodstock. The artwork must be reproducible and will be sold in limited edition to raise funds for the Society.

A panel of WHS board members will select the winning posters.  Winning artwork will be posted in the local media, and on the WHS website http://www.woodstockhistoricalsociety.org.  The winner’s artwork will also be shown on Channel 14, Lifestyles of Woodstock.

The students’ posters will be judged on creativity, originality, and relevancy to The Woodstock’s Historical Society 40th Anniversary.

The student with the winning poster will receive a $100 gift check. The second and third place entries will receive gift certificates.  All artists will receive a certificate of appreciation.

Prizes and recognition awards will be presented at a ceremony scheduled for March 25th 2007  at 3:00 in Palmer Hall, 523 Route 169 Woodstock, CT.  Parents, students, and teachers will need to provide transportation. Students will be called on stage to receive their award and a group photo will be taken and forwarded to the participating schools. All artwork will be displayed at the Woodstock Historical Society Block Party scheduled for August 4, 2007, from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Woodstock Fairgrounds.

Posters must be completed no later than March 5th 2007 to allow time for judging. Please use the enclosed student permission slip to fill out the required information and be sure to tape it to the back of each poster submitted.
